Most software stores information. We are interested in the harder half — software that has to reach a conclusion.
A decision engine takes a stream of measurements, a body of rules and a set of constraints, and returns an answer that a person or a machine can act on. It has to be right, it has to explain itself, and it has to keep working at three in the morning when nobody is watching. That discipline is called decision intelligence, and it is what the D, the I and the S in our name stand for. COGNIA is from cognition — the knowing that any decision has to rest on.
We do the whole of it ourselves: the model, the engine, the interface a person actually touches, and the apps it ships in. And when the result is new, we file it.

An engine nobody can audit is an engine nobody will trust with a plant. Ours keep the rule and the evidence for every conclusion, so an operator can ask why and get an answer rather than a score.
Real processes give partial data, late data and contradictory data. The interesting engineering is not the clean case; it is deciding well when a sensor is silent and the shift has already started.
We deliver the engine together with the interface, the deployment and the instrumentation to tell whether it is still right six months later. A model without those is a demonstration, not a system.
When a problem has no shelf answer we design one, and we register it. Our intellectual property is our own, and so is every line of the software our products run on.
